There are four opening prayers at the Sunday Eucharist: English - varies from Sunday to Sunday; Korean - "Merciful Lord, with all our heart, may we adore you and love all the people truly"; Spanish - This also varies from Sunday to Sunday; Kanjobal (a Mayan dialect) - "God, our Father, we always follow Jesus. May he breathe on us his saving Spirit. We pray in his name." The Apostles' Creed is on page 162 in the Gather Book. At the Greeting of Peace, "Peace be with you" is added in Hebrew and Arabic as our prayer for peace in the Holy Land. Shalom aleichem in Hebrew and Asalamu aleikum in Arabic.

In our community, CROP Walk funds support the Eastern Illinois Food Bank, the TIMES Center, and St. Jude's Catholic Worker House. On Sunday, April 13, Dolores and Andy Sofranko, Bea Shahin, Jennifer and Chris Glick, and Mary Ellen Sronce will be walking in support of others who have no choice but to walk. The Annual Diocesan Appeal provides six Regional Directors of Religious Education who instruct catechetical leaders and are always available for consultation. There are presently 1,084 catechists catechizing 10,676 students.

Spiritual Direction invites us to live in the present moment so that we may open our hearts to receive God's unconditional love and compassion. Sr. Charlene Cesario, SSCM, now offers spiritual direction. Flyers are in the lobby.

Catholic Worker House
Community Meeting will be held on Saturday, April 5, in the Annex. Mass at 8 A.M. followed by a one-hour meeting. All are welcome.

Requesting tools, spades, pitchforks, rakes, etc for the garden. Sleeping bags, blankets, gloves, hats, and warm jackets are constant needs. Deliver any day between 9-11 A.M. or call 356-7101 for special arrangements.

Inter-Religious Dialogue Series aims to bring representatives of many religious traditions from Champaign-Urbana to one place with one purpose – to be better neighbors by understanding each other through faith. The Problem of Evil and Theodicy is the topic on Thursday, April 3, 7 P.M., Unitarian Universalist Church in Urbana. Flyers are in the lobby.

How to Recognize Your Own Spiritual Joy is Fr. Andrew Chalkey's theme for the Men's Mid Week Retreat on April 1-3. The retreat will begin at 2 P.M. on Tuesday and end after noon Mass on Thursday.
Being Refreshed by the Holy Spirit Day by Day is David Mangan's theme for the Charismatic Retreat on April 4-6. The retreat begins at 7 P.M. on Friday evening and ends after noon Mass on Sunday.

Join men and women for the National Catholic Singles Conference, April 25-27 in Lincolnshire, IL. The weekend includes talks by national speakers, social events, times of prayer and more. Provena Hospice is recruiting compassionate and caring volunteers to provide comfort and support to terminally ill patients and their families. If you are able to sit with a patient, be a friend or provide encouragement to family members, help with office mailings and filing, or visit bereaved families this may be your opportunity. The Volunteer Training Program will be held at Provena Hospice, 1501 Interstate Dr., Champaign, on Tuesdays, April 1, 8, & 15 and Thursdays, April 3, 10, & 17 from
6-9 P.M. After the initial time commitment for training, volunteer work can be flexible to fit within your schedule. Please call Christy at 353-3441 for more information.

The New Melleray Trappist Monastery in Peosta, Iowa will be hosting a Live-in Experience vocational retreat on May 23-26. Work and pray with the monks on their 3500 acre farm. There is no cost but space is limited. Call 1-800-221-1807.

If you are celebrating 50 years of marriage in 2008, notify the office. Each couple will receive a personal invitation from the Bishop to attend a Mass and reception in your honor this September.

St. Mary Church Ministry Opportunities

Pray. Remember our parish community, pastor, bishop, and our sister communities in Calavera, El Salvador in your prayers.
Meditate. Visit www.sacredspace.ie for a daily scriptural reflection in English, Korean, and Spanish taken from the daily liturgy.
Visit a shut-in. Be matched with a St. Mary parishioner who would appreciate regular visits, weekly or monthly. Call Sandy at 352-8364.
Provide flowers. If you would like to provide flowers to beautify our sanctuary, please call Carolyn at 356-5194.
Study. Bible Study Group, noon, Tuesdays. Spirituality Study Group, 1st and 3rd Thursdays, 7:30 PM. Call Sandy at 367-7664.
Tutor. Pair with a Korean parishioner to help improve their spoken English. Call Lynda at 328-4066 or jminor@uiuc.edu.
Feed the hungry. In addition to financial contributors (FCWH, P.O. Box 1612, Champaign 61824-1612), the St. Jude Catholic Worker House needs volunteers for the Soup Kitchen. Call Ellen at 356-7101 or Leigh at 359-9466.
Help the homeless. Donate shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, spray deodorant, hair care products for African-American men, shaving cream and disposable razors to the T.I.M.E.S. Center. All sizes are appreciated. The collection box is in the church lobby. Call Carolyn at 356-5194.
Save your used stamps. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet redeem them for cash which is used for their missions in Peru and Japan. Container is in the lobby.
Save your inkjet printer cartridges. St. Mary earns $2 for each one which is then donated to the St. Jude Catholic Worker House. Place them in the box in the lobby or use the mailing bags by the box.
Shop. In addition to the many products from El Salvador, handmade jewelry,
St. Mary note cards, and the St. Mary Choir CD are on sale in the lobby. These sales support the small women's co-ops in El Salvador.

Baptisms can be arranged at your convenience with the pastor. We suggest that you consider baptism as part of the Sunday Liturgy.
Marriages must be arranged with the pastor at least four months in advance. Attendance at Pre-Cana Conferences is required.
Communion for shut-ins may be arranged with the pastor.
The Sacrament of the Sick is administered twice yearly at Sunday Masses or may be arranged at any time with the pastor.
The Religious Education Program for school children is held on Sunday mornings at 9 A.M., October – April.
Check out the magazine rack in the lobby. A number of excellent Catholic publications are available for purchase.
Support your parish. All are expected to take their fair share in the financial support of the parish.
