May he breathe on us his saving Spirit. We pray in his name." The Apostles' Creed is on page 162 in the Gather Book. Last Thursday evening I noticed a dark shadow creeping across my right eye. This eye has been troubled since it was infected with a serious case of shingles 22 years ago. On Friday, a specialist at Carle Clinic determined it was a tear of the retina causing that part of the retina to detach from the outer layer of the eye. Luckily I began to receive treatment for this serious problem in time to prevent further damage. If left unattended it could cause blindness in the eye. With laser treatment the rest of the retina was fixed more securely to the back wall. Then a gas bubble was injected into the eye to cause the torn retina to reattach to the outer wall. All has gone well, including an additional tear that occurred on Saturday. The bubble therapy required that I remain in an upright position for approximately 72 hours. It has meant attempting to sleep in that position – something I have been unable to do. But for the sake of a healthy eye, it was a small price to pay. I am grateful for your many expressions of support and your prayers and food. This episode has reminded me of how blest I am to be a part of this community. Father Tom
